On Thursday and Friday, 12-13 January 2023, I attended the CIMIx Conference of Creative Industries Austria. The event targets the Austrian film and TV industry. I wanted to find out about current developments and network with like-minded professionals from Austria and abroad.
One focus of CIMIx was on the new film incentive model, which came into force on 1 January 20203. This should lead to an increase in the competitiveness and attractivity of Austria as a film location, increase the value creation of the film industry and also promote and expand technically digital services such as animation, VFX, and music. It is also intended to provide incentives for ecologically sustainable film production. I am very curious to see what will happen in the next few years.
Another exciting contribution for me came from Justin Scroggie, known as “The Format Doctor”. He gave inspiring talks about formats & new content for TV. This was a very interesting insight into a completely different genre for me – international TV show productions.
Indian film producer Vishakha Singh gave a talk on Web 3.0 and NFTs, which I watched. Singh is keen to introduce as many women as possible to the Web 3.0 ecosystem and to design NFT strategies for mass applications at Coto, which I found very exciting and empowering, especially from a feminist perspective.
Julia Körner presented her extraordinary, innovative fashion design. Körner is an award-winning Austrian designer who is internationally recognized for her design innovations in 3D printing. Julia’s work is at the forefront of these disciplines. Their work includes Hollywood productions, such as the recent Black Panther. The Queen’s fashion items were designed and developed by Körner.
Another special highlight for me was the evening event on 12 January, which celebrated 18 years of Außenwirtschaft Creative Industries. Moderated by the fabulous Fräulein Hahnkamper and with musical interludes by Edi Nulz, Moonlight Breakfast, and Ulf Lindemann. I have become a big fan of the music of Moonlight Breakfast in particular.
All in all, I was able to take away a lot from this event. I am currently enthusiastically working on some of the above-mentioned topics, reflecting on them, and developing new ideas and concepts based on them.
